How Oregon child support law works
Oregon’s child-support guideline rules are in OAR 137-050. The Department of Justice describes an income-shares approach and provides a calculator, instructions, and worksheets. Gross income for support can differ from taxable income or the wages shown on last year’s return.
Sources: OAR 137-050 guideline rules.
How the guideline is calculated
- Establish current income for each parent, including applicable actual or potential income and permitted adjustments.
- Find the basic obligation using adjusted combined income and the children included in the calculation.
- Apply the parenting-time credit and the guideline treatment of child care, health coverage, and cash medical support.
- Review the resulting obligations and any reason to rebut the guideline result. The legal custody label alone does not determine which parent pays.
The parenting-time credit is not the same as the percentage of overnights. Oregon’s official FAQ explains why a higher-income parent can owe support even with more than half the overnights.

Documents that make the worksheet more useful
- Current pay, benefits, and business-income records for both parents.
- Overnights for each child and information about other supported children.
- Child-care bills and available health-plan costs, including the portion attributable to the children.
Keep the source document beside each figure you enter. If a number is uncertain, note what still needs to be confirmed before relying on an estimate.
What this site’s worksheet covers
The educational guide and official resources are available now. Our Oregon workflow collects both parents’ financial information and produces a printable accounting. It does not calculate a child-support amount; the official state calculator linked on this page does.
How Oregon cases actually get to a number
This site’s Oregon module estimates the published basic scale, logistic parenting credit, July 2026 self-support reserve, qualified child-care allocations, reasonable-cost premium allocation, cash medical support, and minimum-order rules for minor children living with their parents.
Oregon’s child-support guidelines use a basic scale, a logistic parenting-time credit, a self-support reserve, and allocations for qualified child care and medical support. That is a different path from neighboring states that use another model, so do not import a table, percentage, or overnight credit from somewhere else.
Parenting time in Oregon
Oregon’s parenting credit is logistic, not a straight overnight percentage. Credit rises nonlinearly with overnights. Adult children attending school and nonparent custody remain on the official worksheet.
Costs Oregon usually treats separately
- Qualified child-care allocations
- Reasonable-cost medical premiums
- Cash medical support
- Minimum-order rules
When Oregon courts leave the guideline
Dependent-benefit credits, unresolved nonjoint-child deductions, and court deviations need the official tool. Cost eligibility and the child-care cap must be established before expenses are entered.
Official Oregon forms to keep beside this guide
Oregon guideline worksheet, parenting-time credit, and medical support calculation. The 581-row scale, logistic parenting credit, July 2026 $1,729 reserve, $16.80 highest minimum wage, qualified care and reasonable-cost premium allocation, cash medical support and minimum-order rules are implemented for minor children. Adult students, nonparent custody, benefits, unresolved nonjoint deductions, special premium findings and deviations remain outside scope. The primary authority is the published Oregon source. Fill the official form from source documents. Use this page only to check that you chose the right Oregon path—primary versus shared, table versus percentage, add-ons versus basic support.

Questions specific to Oregon
Why ‘logistic’ parenting credit?
Oregon’s credit curve is not linear. Extra overnights do not add the same dollar credit at every overnight count.
Does the self-support reserve always apply?
It is part of the current guideline and can limit support so a parent retains the reserve amount.
Are adult children in school included here?
Not calculated on this site. Those cases need the official worksheet.

Frequently asked questions
Can the official Oregon tool produce a printable worksheet?
Yes. The DOJ calculator instructions describe viewing, saving, and printing a PDF worksheet at the end. Complete its required inputs and check the relevant rules before using the output.
Does this guide also calculate alimony?
No. These steps concern child support. A worksheet may consider an existing spousal-support payment when its rules allow, but it does not determine a new alimony award.
Can I file the financial intake as the state worksheet?
Our intake is a preparation aid. Use the official state forms and the instructions for your court when submitting a proposed support calculation.
